A new Landmark for the city of Helsinki

Competition entry for the New Museum of Architecture and Design in Helsinki’s South Harbor is a dynamic cultural landmark that seamlessly blends architecture, sustainability, and public engagement. Inspired by the city’s waterways and heritage, its sculptural design features a hybrid timber and precast concrete structure, integrating traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. Sustainable elements like passive solar heating, shading systems, and high-performance glass reduce environmental impact while maximizing views. A central Atrium, accessible from multiple entrances, serves as a public gathering space, leading visitors through immersive exhibitions that showcase Finnish design’s past, present, and future. With open terraces and fluid connections to the surrounding city, the museum blurs boundaries between architecture, nature, and urban life, creating an inclusive space for exploration, learning, and creativity.
